The Salesians of Don Bosco Headquarters in Rome have shown they have learnt a lesson from recent years – when dealing with pedophilia and its defenders, swift action is needed.
The order sacked its leader in the Netherlands, Fr Herman Spronck, and disciplined another priest, identified only as Fr Van B, yesterday after the two publicly defended pedophile sex.
Fr Van B. has been a board member of the “Martijn” Association, an organization campaigning to end the Dutch ban on adult-child sex.
The Procurator General of the Salesian Congregation in Rome, Fr Francis Maraccani, said in a press statement that membership of Martijn was absolutely incompatible with the principles and values of the Salesian tradition.
the Salesian Congregation re-affirms its commitment to fidelity to Don Bosco, to its great educational tradition and in the footsteps of Don Bosco, to total fidelity to the teaching of the Church. Full and total respect for children, youths and young people remain for us a fundamental and indispensable option
