How Aquino describes his love life before Ms. Lee
Although he may not look it, the 52-year-old Philippine president is definitely longing for a wife. He said as much during an “ambush interview” with reporters on Sunday.
The ambush was timely as “Noynoy” had just finished telling an audience he envies the late president Manuel L. Quezon for having had a loving and supportive wife. Oh, the things he would do just to have an “inspiration” like that, who wouldn’t mind standing with him in public and organizing activities for the ladies in government.
“Given the burdens of my office, if you have someone you can talk to, if there is someone who will tell you, ‘You’re still okay,’ of course, that is the key to your inspiration,” he says.
The bachelor president says he is not averse to marriage; it’s just that he has not been lucky enough to find Ms. Right. He says the plan to find the ideal woman and snare her before she could come to her senses has been three decades in the making.
For now, Aquino is dating Korean TV and radio personality Grace Lee, but the president is not ready to say if she is The One. “We’ll find out,” is all he is willing to say, although he described his love life as “like Coke: zero” before he met Lee.
Last week Lee reacted furiously to a report by knee-on-the-windowsill reporter Ellen Tordesillas, which quoted her saying she could see herself marrying El Prez. She said on her Twitter account: “I’m deeply offended that a journalist like Tordesillas would write an article of lies to sensationalize one’s private life. I have never said anything remotely close to what her write-up says I did. I believe the public deserves an apology from her.”
But the report didn’t end their courtship and they are still, apparently, an item. He ended a two-year relationship with politician Shalani Soledad a few months after he was elected president in 2010. He briefly dated stylist Liz Uy and had an equally brief relationship with stock broker Len Lopez.
“My father and mother … would not have achieved what they had achieved if they didn’t find each other. Of course, that’s also what I’m aiming for,” he says.
So, will he settle this time or not? How does that song go?…….
